Our client is a well established, family run specialist steel frame contractor in the Newport area. They offer a complete service from design through to fabrication and construction and work throughout the UK.

Due to company growth our client is looking for a QS with at least some steel frame experience to join them on a permanent basis.

Your role will involve managing the commercial aspects of a number of projects at one time. Candidates will come from an surveying or estimating background, having worked with main or specialist sub contractors and it is imperative that they have at least some knowledge and experience of steel frame projects.

POSITION:
Senior Quantity Surveyor

SALARY & PACKAGE:
£35,000 - £40,000 + Car + Benefits & Package

POSSIBLE LOCATION OF CANDIDATES:
Lowerstoft, Norwich, Wymondham, East Dereham, Great Yarmouth – Norfolk


THE ROLE:
Working for this established but still growing construction steel fabrication and architectural steel company, as Senior Quantity Surveyor you will play a key role reporting to the Managing Director.

Managing a small team of Project Managers and Assistants you will implement your proven architectural steel experience on prestigious high profile construction developments across the UK. Based from the Norfolk regional office you will perform typical QS duties ensuring that all works are completed within the most up to legal frameworks.

This exciting opportunity has genuine path to progression for the right candidate and will involve working with some of the most prestigious construction developments under way in the UK today.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Essentially you will be a Quantity Surveyor with experience working with architectural steelwork projects and be fully aware of the contract law surrounding the sector.

Living within easy commutable distance in Norfolk you will have a technical fabrication knowledge of staircase, balustrades, platforms and similar steel support structures.

As a proven QS you will be a character that can lead and manage a team with a professional attitude to ensuring contracts and legal obligations are met and adhered to.

OUR CLIENT

Our client is a leader in the field of structural engineering and due to expansion in the UK they are looking to appoint a high calibre Quantity Surveyor with structural steel experience.

THE ROLE

Projects recently won require an excellent Quantity Surveyor from within the Structural Steel sector. You will be looking after a project which will be a minimum of £1m of Structural Steel. The types of projects undertaken include the following:

• Stadia
• Shopping Centres
• Industrial Buildings
• Residential & Hotels
• Commercial Offices
• Bridges
• Hospitals
• Education
• Warehouses & Distribution
• Car Parks
• Leisure

You will report to the Commercial Director and work closely with clients and project staff. You will possess excellent planning and communication skills and will have experience running multiple projects at any one time. At present, you will be working for a Multi £million turnover Structural Steel business and have a proven track record of delivering profit from your projects.

Your role is to:

• Provide Support to the Estimating Department for review/comment/agreement of measurement/valuation procedures and Contract Terms
• Establish and maintain relationship with Main/Management Contractor or Client QS
• Prepare, submit and agree applications for payment and arranging for VAT Invoicing where applicable. Monitor payment terms and performance with Accounts Department
• Resolve contractual issues on a day-to-day basis in conjunction with the Projects Manager
• Timely production and agreement of Final Accounts
• Sub-Contractor/Supplier Management
1) Resolve claims and disputes with sub-contractors
2) Sub-contractor ledger management in conjunction with Accounts Department
3) Establish, maintain and control procedures for change notification and variation recovery with sub-contractors including our recovery of NCR’s
• Establish with Projects Manager entitlements to prolongation and/or disruption. Produce and agree claims.
• Monitor job costs in relation to Cost & Estimating sheets
• Produce monthly financial status reports on each contract for submission to the Head of Quantity Surveying
• Review contractual correspondence and liaison with Projects Manager to ensure appropriate responses/notices are issued
• Ensure the Head of Quantity Surveying is kept appraised of financial aspects of each project
